    Health Benefits of Limes

Recently I’ve been getting burned out with plain water.  My normal drinking routine is hot lemon water in the morning, Amino Energy during my workouts, coffee through work, and then water throughout the day.  There was not much variety and I was getting a bit burned out drinking alkaline water all day.  And when I have a personal life, not drinking in front of others got my served with 20 questions on why I didn’t drink anymore (everyone assumes it was because of a problem I had with it).  Check out this blog for more on why I did stop.

So I started drinking sparkling water like Perrier or Pellegrino but when I went out I would add a lime.  I did this strictly for appearance to whomever I was out with assumed I was drinking a Vodka soda or Gin and soda whatever.  It alleviated the self-guilt to those around me who were drinking and felt guilty.

But as usual anything I introduced to my body, I like to do some research on, to see what health benefits there are, and if there is anything negative too.   While most of the benefits can come from mixing a lime with water, not all, some are used in oils as well.

    Pack with Nutrients

A serving size of roughly 67 grams will yield you about 2 grams of fiber, 22%  of your recommended daily intake of Vitamin C,  2% of Iron, 2% of Calcium, 2% B6, and 1% Potassium.  Limes are also high in antioxidants.

    Skin Care

Since limes are high in Vitamin C (which is used to make collagen), collagen helps keep your skin tight.   Lime juice also contains healthy acids that help remove dead skin cells (if applied directly to your skin).

    Helps with Digestion

The natural aroma of a lime helps salivate your mouth which aids primary digestion.   As we know limes are acidic so this naturally breaks down macro molecules of your meal.    Also if constipated a high dose of lime juice and salt and help give you some relief.

    Weight Loss

Nutritionist has found that the citric acid found in lime juice helps boost a person’s metabolism, helping them burn more calories and store less fat.

    Fights Infections

As mention above limes are high in Vitamin C and antioxidants.  This will help strengthen your immune system.  And help your body naturally fight off infections like the flu.

    Reduces Heart Disease

Again with the Vitamin C!  Vitamin C can help lower your blood pressure, which is a major factor when it comes to heart failure.  The potassium found in a lime helps with the blood flow and this again will help lower your high blood pressure.

    Lowers Blood Sugar

According to research done by Dakhale  Vitamin C can lower your blood sugar levels in the morning and post-meal sugar changes.  And as I’ve said all article what is high in Vitamin C?  Yup! Limes.

    Increases Iron Absorption

The absorption of iron is essential to a healthy body.  Iron helps make red blood cells and that transports oxygen around your body.   I try to consume a plant-based diet.  And for my fellow non-meat eaters there are concerns of not having enough iron in our diets.  As iron found in plant-based protein is not absorbed well into the body.    However foods high in Vitamin C help prevent iron deficiency by helping to improve the absorption.

    Helps Me Drink More Water

When you get tired of drinking something with no taste, adding a little natural flavor helps you enjoy water a little more.  It allows me the have that extra glass of water that sometimes I’m just not feeling.

    Balance Doesn’t Mean Equal Balance

    0
    Balance isn't 50/50
    Balance isn't 50/50
Throughout my life I’ve always heard that I need balance.   And my assumption was that balance meant 50/50 or some other equal equation that gives equal time with energy, finances or whatever to whatever needs “balance”.

Well that is not true.  As much as we should think everything in life should be balance it isn’t.  And giving equal parts doesn’t necessary mean a happy life, or a productive life.

In a relationship I’ve always heard that in order for it to be successful it needs to be balance of what everyone gives.  Again in theory sounds great.   But life doesn’t work that way.  In business one of your partners may have a better understanding or an expertise in one field or scope of a project and makes sense for this partner to do more of the work, while another time or another project another partner may be more active and be giving more to that project.  But not necessarily an equal amount total for both of those projects.

Balance is a sliding scaled.  Sometimes you need to give more effort and time to one part of your life, a project or whatever then you need for another part.  If you are struggling in school should you only give 50% of your effort into school so you can balance your social life?  No!  Or if your partner loses a parent, should you expect your partner to contribute as much as they normally did around the house?  Or is your partner going to need to  lean on you more because they are hurting?

With this being said a balance in relationship and time is a sliding scale.  Above I mentioned a partner in a time of need leaning on you more.   But for the rest of the relationship should they be the taker and never a giver where you need to  lean on them more then normal?  No!

As a sliding scale a good relationship and balance for life is when the scales go back on forth on who is the giver and who is the receiver.  It should never be one sided.  If it is, then you are not in a healthy relationship.

When it comes to my time, I don’t do good with a 50/50 balance of work and downtime.  When I’m not busy I become very lazy and somewhat depressed.  So for me if I could stay busy and productive about 90% of the day and the other 10% be leisure that is perfect day for me.

With that being said, sometimes I need the leisure to be 60% and being productive 40%  or any other variation.  It all depends on what life throws your way.

What a good balance for you is for you to decide.  But know what it is, and make sure it aligns with the goals you have for in life.  You might think well if I can work 10% of the day and play 90% that is a perfect balance for me.  And that could be.  But if you goal is to be President of a company or to own your own company working 10% of the day may not make it happen for you.

5 Steps to be Alcohol Free

    0
    Stop Drinking
    Alcohol Free
In December in 2015 I stopped drinking, now my goal wasn’t to give it up forever but 6 to 8 weeks.   But what I had learned in those 8 weeks of being sober was I no longer needed to drink in social events to have a good time or to be sociable, but that didn’t happen overnight.

Things that I learned once I stopped drinking.
    • Waking up was so much easier after going out
    • When going out on good nights they are way better sober, nights that are lame are way lamer sober (the ying and yang method)
    • It becomes easier going out sober the more you do it.
    • Peer Pressure in the beginning is going to suck; but gets easier
    • People get very uncomfortable with you not drinking.
    • Prepare to lose “friends”

    Prepare

When you start thinking about not drinking you need to have plan.  If you just think you are going to stop and nothing else is going to change you are mistaken.  The first step is having the right mindset.  If you think that its just going to be a walk in the park, you are wrong.  There will be peer pressure, self pressure, and an environment that will be very uncomfortable with you not drinking.

So make sure you have strong convictions to why you want to stop drinking.  My reason was I wanted abs more then I wanted a hangover.  And that goal was strong enough to deal with everyone else’s discomfort or me not drinking, and their pressure to get me to do so.

You have to remember to not let others control your goal, you control it.

Figure out what is going to hold you back from keeping this commitment to yourself, and then lean into it, face those challenges and succeed.  You will also need to have a plan on how you plan on handling peer pressure.  If that is hard for you, then don’t get into the situations that you think  you will succumb to the temptation.  I don’t keep junk food in my condo for the sole purpose I can’t eat what I don’t have around to eat.

Have a Drink In Hand (Non-Alcoholic Of Course)

The easiest way not to have peer pressure and to combat everyone getting uncomfortable with you not drinking, is have a drink in hand.  Bottle waters and Red Bull worked for me since I didn’t care if people knew I wasn’t drinking.  I was steadfast to my goal.  But if you are still not confident in your self-control like I was, thats ok.  Get to the restaurant or bar before your friends, make friends with the server, bartender etc and tell them what you are doing.  Have them feed you club sodas, a fruity looking drink that looks like it could be an alcoholic drink.  Give them  a nice tip up front and they will take care of you.

    Steer Clear of Temptation

As I mentioned before if you can’t control some temptation stay clear of it.  Like I said I like to eat crap a lot more now that I eat super clean.  But I can’t eat what I don’t have.  When you want to go out and have fun with your friends.  Some ideas maybe stay clear of the clubs, try to get your crew to go to dinners, movies, games, things were binge drinking isn’t a thing.

Make a Goal longer then a Month

If you are serious of giving up drinking you need to make a goal of more then 30 days.  My goal was 6 weeks with a possible 2 more.  I didn’t see my goals with my abs at six weeks so I went two more.  When eights came I like what I saw ab wise so it kept me going.  While most new habits take 28 days to change but it takes in my mind closer to 90 days to make it a new part of your life, and part of who you are.  Six to eights weeks may not have been a long enough goal to make it.  That might have been a good 1/2 point.  Because it took that long to see the results I was going for.  About 90 days is a good amount of time to set your goal.

    Believe in Yourself.

We are a lot stronger than we might think we are.  You have the self-will to do this, you need to believe and learn to say NO.  Everyone who is pressuring you is their shortcomings.  And you not drinking may make them uncomfortable, but that is their problem not yours.  You need to do what is right for you, not them.
