Mindset: Always be the Hardest Worker in the Room

One of my favorite mindsets is to always be the hardest worker in the room, now I might not always be that, but that is always what I strive to do.  The old saying goes “iron sharpens iron”, so by having the mindset being the hardest worker in the room, you should hope others in that space feel the same way and want to be the hardest worker in the room.  By doing so you will continue to challenge each other to get better at being better.

A few months ago I switched gyms for this exact reason.  When I was working out in the morning I noticed my work outs were taking longer and longer at one gym versus when I went to my current gym.  I knew I was working harder than anyone else in the first gym, but comparing myself to those who just wanted to check off their list for the day that they worked out instead of pushing themselves was putting me into a slump.  At my new gym there are a ton more members and a lot of them workout hard.  This pushes me to continue to workout even harder so they can’t out work me.

I don’t focus on anyone or any group at the gym, but you can always tell in any room, gym, office, school, wherever who is working hard and who isn’t.  The goal is to make sure I’m not slacking so when I’m in between sets and I check my phone and see someone doing a set it is a reminder to me to get back my focus and start tossing some weights around.

This doesn’t just go for the gym, it goes for every space in life.  Your career, your education, whatever, don’t let others outwork you.  Every time I got complacent in life, bad things have happen to me.  You need to always strive to getting better, more results and pushing yourself to be better, if not you are getting worse.

    My Favorite Smoothie

One of my favorite sandwiches is a Peanut Butter and Banana on a toasted bread.  Yes it sounds basic but I love bananas and nut butters!   It is why I can’t keep peanut butter in my house.  I will eat a jar in minutes, no self control when it comes to peanut butter (and trail mix).

So while working with the BFY Life group we made a smoothie using their Nirvana Life Nutrition’s Pr plant-based protein, Chocolate Crisp flavor, into my favorite smoothie, The Phat Elvis.  If you are looking for a hearty smoothie that will fill you up, but not weigh you down, and you are a banana, peanut butter fan like I am, this is for you.

    Hand Sanitizing

As we get into the colder seasons of 2019, naturally most of us are going to get sick.  My sister who works in hospitals is a germ freak, and one of the guys who’s warehouse I have space in has 3 Costco size containers of hand sanitizer by his desk at all times.  But are hand sanitizer beneficial?

From what I have read, washing your hands with antibacterial soap and water is the best prevention from getting sick and spreading cross contamination.  But for most of us, we can’t wash our hands are often as we would like to, or is recommended.  So this is were sanitizer is a good alternative, if used correctly and the correct ones are being used.

The CDC recommends using a hand sanitizer that is 60% to 95% alcohol based.  Using the correct amount (read the label), and rubbing it in, until your hands are dry, which takes about 20 seconds.  I had heard that you need to rub the sanitizer in for four minutes in order for it to be effective, however I have not found any studies to support that claim.

Also when using hand sanitizer your hands need to be free of grease and cannot be visible soiled.  If they are, all you are doing is adding sanitizer to the grease and soil, and it will not penetrate the skin.  It is also note worthy to mention that hand sanitizer will not kill all common germs, washing your hands will kill a lot more.  Hand sanitizer will not kill, salmonella, e.Coli, MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) [no idea what that is] and norovirus.

A final recommendation is to stay away from ones that claim to be anti-bacteria sanitizer, while there is no data suggesting resistance to hand sanitizer for the germs its suppose to kill, but over using anti-bacteria sanitizer will allow the bacteria to develop a microbial resistance.

For me, I’ve started to carry a small thing of hand sanitizer on the outside of my bag, to help me to get into a better habit of using it more often.  No only do I think it will help prevent spreading certain germs, it is the polite thing to do for others.  Think about it.  You don’t want to get others sick from your bad habits, espically when it only takes 20 seconds to help fight the spreading of germs.  But I would also make sure to wash your hands with soap as often as you can.
