One of my favorite topics, and something I enjoy learning about is the fitness world. Being able to mold your body into something better than it was interest me. It is one of the few things in this world, were hard work pays off, and you can’t cheat the process. If you work at it your body changes, you can’t just talk the talk, you have to put the work in.
One of the guys who has had a lot success in the fitness arena is Mike O’Hearn, and through one of my rabbit holes of trying to absorb as much information I can from successful people (this case in the fitness industry) I came across him. It could have been through his love of Huskies or the fact it has been said he has the perfect body.
When someone asked him why he workouts out at 4am every morning, his answer surprised me. I had assumed it was for something more basic like there was nobody at the gym. But there was more to it. He works out first thing in the morning because he believes you should do something for yourself every day to start your day.
He goes on and explains that all day no matter who you are, a CEO, supervisor, parent, kid doesn’t matter you are always at service to others . By working out first thing, he does one selfish act for himself. To help him grow… in his case his arms. But the same idea can be applied to everyone’s walk in life.
If working out isn’t your thing, it could be reading a book, could be listening to a podcast, even meditate. The idea I think Mike was trying to represent, was do one thing, first thing in the morning that can help you grow as a person, for yourself. You then have the rest of the day to help and do work for others.
Since then I’ve done just that. The one thing I do is the same as Mike, is workout, to me that sets the stage for the rest of the day. The gym has now become “my bar after work” I use to blow off steam and relax at the local watering hole.
Now it’s the gym. So for me working out first thing, gets my mind right for the day, and puts me in a better place, to help serve others. I’ve found since I’ve changed my workouts to the AM I’m in a better place. You can easily replace the gym with anything else that sets you up for a good day. Like I said before maybe it is 20 minutes of meditation, or ready a chapter of a good book. Whatever it is doing it for you is what matters.
What are some of the things you would like to do for yourself, daily? Do you do them? What is holding you back? Have any questions for me? Please send me a message or start a discussion below. Someone like you is think the same thing, however they are waiting on YOU to start the discussion.
